Carignan is grown throughout the world, with USA plantings in California, Oregon, Washington, Missouri, and Texas. Carignan is a late-ripening, vigorous variety that thrives in a very warm climate. In the winery Carignan adds color and tannins to blends, with a very useful flavor dimension. Used in the past primarily for blending, single varietal Carignan/Carignane is gaining in popularity. International Carignan Day is celebrated each year on the last Thursday of October.
